The Ulaanbaatar International Film Festival (UBIFF) is one of Mongolia’s premier cultural events, dedicated to showcasing the best of independent cinema from around the globe. The festival offers Mongolian audiences a unique opportunity to experience acclaimed films selected and awarded at prestigous international festivals. It also supports the growth of the local film industry by enhancing the capacity of Mongolian filmmakers and contributing to the sustainable development of national cinema.
Held every October, UBIFF features screenings of Mongolian classics and internationally awarded films, while also offering a diverse range of capacity-building programs and co-production opportunities for both local and international filmmakers. The festival has become a celebrated platform for artistic expression, education, and entertainment—bringing global cinematic trends, cultural diversity, and new voices in filmmaking to Mongolian audiences.
This year, the 17th edition of UBIFF will take place from October 8 to 15, 2025, and will include the following sections:
- Opening Ceremony and screening of the opening film
- “Garuda” Mongolian Film Competition – showcasing and awarding outstanding Mongolian films
- “New Horizon” Section – a program to revive and reintroduce classic Mongolian films
- International Film Section – screenings of award-winning, artistically significant films from around the world
- Documentary Film Section – featuring exceptional storytelling through documentary cinema
- Industry Day – film pitches, forums, and networking opportunities for local and international professionals
- Cinema for Youth Program – a dedicated program to engage and inspire the younger generation with curated festival films.
